Publications & Resource Information
Northeast Land Management, LLC strives to be one of the leaders in quantitative reasource management research. We continue to
use and develop statistical and data driven approaches to characterize and solve natural resource problems. Our firm is also working
on developing new software for desktop and web deployment for forest inventory and analysis, stand modeling, resource mapping, and data
Horacio, G., P.J. Manning, M.E. McDill, and S. Sterner. 2010. Sawtimber yield tables for Pennsylvania forest management
planning. North. J. Appl. For. 27(4): 140-150.
Abstract: Models to predict gross and net sawtimber volume per acre for even-aged stands were calibrated for Pennsylvania
forests as part of a continuing forest management planning project for Pennsylvania's 2.1 million acres of state forestland....The models were fitted using plot-level observations from a continuous forest
inventory that has been carried out by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry since the 1960s.
To apportion the total volume into species groups, proportions were derived of the total sawtimber volume per acre for seven different species
groups by forest type and site class for four macro-regions aggregated from the ecological regions within Pennsylvania.
Manning, P.J., and M.E. McDill. In Press. Optimal parameter settings for solving harvest scheduling models with adjacency constraints.
Math. Comp. For. Nat. Res. Sci. xx(x): xx-xx.
Abstract: Optimal parameter settings to improve the efficiency of solving harvest scheduling models with adjacency constraints were
examined using Ilog's Cplex® 11.2 optimizer tuning tool....In general, mean solution time was less for a given problem set using the optimal parameters compared to the default parameters. The results
discussed provide a simple approach to decrease the solution time of solving mixed integer forest planning problems with adjacency constraints.
